Viscoelasticity Validation

Plastic materials have both viscous and elastic properties. It is difficult to accurately describe the property variations during the molding process when using classical fluid mechanics or classical elastic mechanics. To realize the effects of these material properties on product quality or structure, designers need a professional simulation tool to predict the filling patterns using different plastic materials upfront.   • Residual Stress Prediction

Residual stress is strongly related to the viscoelasticity properties of polymers. It can be classified as thermal-induced and flow-induced residual stress. It will highly influence the product strength and may cause fatigue breakdown.

During the cooling process, temperature changes over time at each position of a part. The temperature distribution has a significant impact on the result of warpage. Annealing is a heating process of an injection molded plastic part below its glass transition temperature. This process has been mainly applied in industries to reduce the inherent stress which may cause deformation or cracking failure. Stress reduction can provide an extra measure of safety from aggressive chemical environments which may come in contact with the part. Moldex3D Viscoelasticity helps users simulate the hot oven annealing process and visualize temperature variation and stress distribution.
