ANSYS FENSAP-ICE-TURBO

Ansys FENSAP-ICE Turbo

Jet Engine Icing Simulation

Ansys FENSAP-ICE-TURBO does what no other system can — its unique, integrated interface enables you to analyze aero grids and icing simultaneously. With it, you can analyze the external flow and icing over the aircraft, with engines installed and running. It has no geometric limitations so you can apply its results to all internal and external components of the jet engine. FENSAP-ICE-TURBO is an option which adds the ability to model operating jet engines to Ansys FENSAP-ICE.

Overview

FENSAP-ICE-TURBO is the first system specifically developed to simulate all aspects of in-flight icing for jet engines. It provides an integrated approach custom-tailored for jet engine manufacturers, enabling you to detect icing and installation problems before the aircraft design cycle is completed. FENSAP-ICE-TURBO, a fully integrated module of FENSAP-ICE, adds the ability to model ice accretion at engine face (Fan and IGV) and within any number of successive compressor stages. FENSAP-ICE-TURBO models water droplets and/or ice crystals trajectories to pinpoint impingement zones and outline ice shapes in several interacting jet engine stages.

Features

  • Integrated Modules Provide the Focused Solution for Jet Engine Manufacturers

FENSAP-ICE-TURBO has four modules to simulate icing and de-icing conditions: Airflow (CFD), droplets and ice crystal impingement limits, Ice shapes, and anti- and de-icing heat loads. Aerodynamic degradation (CFD) meets the requirements of Appendix C, Appendix D (Ice Crystals) and Appendix O (SLD).

  • Simulates aero grids and icing simultaneously

FENSAP-ICE-TURBO accepts grids generated by most commercial mesh generation software. Grids can be structured or unstructured-hybrid (hexahedral, tetrahedral, pyramidal and prism elements). The same grid is used by the four modules, so the CFD aero grids can be re-used to analyze the effects of icing. FENSAP-ICE-TURBO’s technology therefore permits the analysis of aero and icing simultaneously.

  • Easily Exchanges Data to and from Commercial Packages

Accepts airflow results from most commercial CFD codes, seamlessly integrating them into the engine development cycle. FENSAP-ICE-TURBO can also output data to most commercial data visualization packages. Additionally, the software runs on most computer platforms, from PCs to clusters.
